Maharashtra extends ESIC coverage

Proposed Extension of ESIC Applicability to Medical and Educational Institutions

Applies to establishments with 10 or more employees (in the past 12 months) from the following sectors:

1. Educational Institutions

   • Public, private, aided or partially aided

   • Managed by individuals, trusts, societies, or organizations

2. Medical Institutions

   • Corporate, joint sector, trust-run, charitable or privately owned

   • Includes hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centers, pathology labs

Coverage Area:

• All regions in Maharashtra where ESIC provisions are already in force under Section 1(3) of the Act

 

Timeline & Next Steps

• Draft notification open for objections/suggestions until 28th August 2025

• Feedback to be sent to Secretary (2), Public Health Department, Mumbai

• Final notification to be issued post consultation with ESIC and Central Government
