of 1988) – Allowing employees to work daily 10 hours per day subjected to 48 hours per
week in all Commercial establishments (other than shops) in the State of Telangana –

SUMMARY:

Subject: Exemption granted to commercial establishments (excluding shops) under the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988, allowing employees to work up to 10 hours per day, subject to a 48-hour weekly limit.

Key Highlights:

Exemption Granted: Sections 16 and 17 of the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988 are exempted for all commercial establishments (excluding shops) under Section 2(5) of the Act.

Purpose: Part of the state’s Ease of Doing Business reforms.

Effective Date: From the date of publication in the Telangana Gazette (08-07-2025).

Conditions for Exemption:

Working Hours: Max 10 hours per day.

Max 48 hours per week.

Overtime wages applicable for work beyond 48 hours/week.

Rest Breaks: No employee can work more than 6 hours without a minimum 30-minute rest.

Daily Spread: Total work period including rest should not exceed 12 hours in a day.

Quarterly Overtime Cap: Max 144 overtime hours allowed per quarter.

Violation Clause: If any condition is violated, the exemption can be revoked without prior notice.
